The top 13 companies for women in tech

If there's anything the Ellen Pao trial showed, it's that sexism is still alive in Silicon Valley. But some tech companies are trying to change that.

The Anita Borg Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of women in technology, hasreleased a study on the top companies in the world for female technologists. It analyzed 35 companies with a combined workforce of more than 435,000 technical employees, 91,000 of which were women. ABI also measured the representation of women at entry, mid, senior and executive levels, as well as the recruitment and promotion of women.

The list boiled down to 13 tech companies. Which one took the coveted top spot?

That would be BNY Mellon, an investment company in New York City. Check out the list below to find out which other companies made the cut (ranked alphabetically after BNY Mellon, not based on score).

1. BNY Mellon

Though the rest of the list isn't ranked by order, BNY Mellon was ABI's No. 1 pick for top companies for female technologists.

"The valued participation of women at all levels of our technical workforce drives new approaches to the industry-leading services and solutions BNY Mellon’s clients expect throughout the investment lifecycle," BNY chief information officer Lucille Mayer tells ABI.

2. Accenture

Accenture is "a management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company," according to its site.

3. American Express

The financial company, which might provide the credit card some of you have in your wallets, made the cut for this year's list.

4. Apple

This tech giant consistently finds itself on lists such as this. This year, Glassdoor named it one of the best companies to work for overall.

5. eBay

The ecommerce company (where you can purchase priceless Beanie Babies) was also on Glassdoor's list this year for best internships.

6. GoDaddy

Despite years of absurdly sexist ads, GoDaddy is starting to turn its reputation around. Just this year, the website domain provider's chief marketing officer Blake Irving told Fast Company he wants to "set a tone and an environment that women can thrive in." Seems like he's making good on that promise.

7. Goldman Sachs

Here's another boys club trying to turn things around. Last year, the well-known banking firm washit with a headline-grabbing lawsuit, alleging that women were paid less and given fewer promotions than male employees.

Landing on this list might be a step toward assuaging that reputation.

8. Google

Google seems to always top or at least land on lists for best places to work. It was No. 1 this yearon Glassdoor's list of best companies to work for overall.

9. IBM

Tech and consulting giant IBM also lands on the list, soon after announcing a $3 billion investmentin the Internet of Things.

10. Rackspace Hosting

The cloud management company, launched in 1998, is another top tech company for women.

11. Salesforce

Cloud computing company Salesforce also grabs a spot on the list. This comes on the heels of CEO Marc Benioff taking a stand against the controversial Indiana bill on religious freedom.

12. T. Rowe Price

Investment firm T. Rowe Price, "committed to helping clients achieve long-term growth," also found a spot on the list.

13. USAA

USAA stands for the United Services Automobile Association. Now is quite an interesting time for tech folks at the company — USAA just got approval to test drones to evaluate insurance claims after disasters.
