Reddit is about to launch its own video series which will focus on original content. The news site, known as the ‘front page of the internet’ has roped in two producers from the The Vergeteam in an attempt to launch an internal division which will create original videos based on news which originates on the site.
The new project by Reddit was announced at TechCrunch’s Disrupt conference and reported first by The Verge. In conversation with The Verge, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian said, “Reddit’s mission is to connect people across the world through authentic conversations, collaboration, and community — video is an amazing storytelling medium and there’s no better wellspring of original stories than Reddit”.
At the same event, Ohanian showcased a clip of their new project and also stated that it would initially focus on translating the popular AMA (Ask Me Anything) interview format into video. Reddit has had many AMAs with celebrities and public figures and mentions that he would like to have Jay-Z and Beyonce do AMAs, as well as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West and also, the Pope, pointed out TechCrunch.
He also claimed that after The Fappening, a major outbreak of public photos of celebrities which was shared on Reddit, the team wants to take a stand against revenge porn. The company plans to update its privacy policies to protect itself from any such event in the future.
